The King of Navarre and his three companions decide to swear off women, devoting themselves to a life of study and fasting. However, their plans are quickly disrupted when the Princess of France and her three ladies arrive on a diplomatic mission. The men fall in love with the women, but they must keep their feelings hidden due to their oath. Despite their efforts to resist, love prevails and the couples eventually come together. However, their happiness is short-lived as they receive news of the death of the King of France, and the men must leave to fulfill their duties. The women demand that the men prove their love by waiting for them, and the play ends with a promise of reunion in the future..
